My new, 500-mile backyard—and the occasion for the creation of this blog.

I am thrilled to announce that I have been invited to Kansas City, Missouri to be the Curator-In-Residence for the Charlotte Street Foundation. Though I will be living outside of my beloved Chicago art scene for nearly a year, I am conceptualizing this residency as an expansion of my community. In many ways, the contemporary arts in Chicago and Kansas City overlap one another and greatly influence artists and thinkers alike in the Midwest and beyond. Indeed, I plan to use a good deal of my time as Curator-In-Residence to strengthen and make new the connections between these two avant-garde fostering cities. But do not fret dear avant-gardists in St. Louis, Detroit, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and elsewhere—I look forward to putting our backyards together as well so that we may create an extraordinary network that only the Midwest has to offer!

I am scheduled to arrive in Kansas City late this month. And I will start the connection process right away. Over the next few months, I will visit as many willing Kansas City artists and thinkers as possible to develop a plan for a year's worth of programming at the Charlotte Street Foundation's La Esquina exhibition space. I look so forward to meeting and making friends with you all in person.

In the meantime, I hope you will help me build my new, 500-mile backyard. Please send me images, texts, recommendations, or just email hello so that we can connect right away!
